Dial to stop drug dealing

Welcome to the Western Region Drugs Task Force

As Chairperson of the Western Region Drugs Task Force (WRDTF) it is my pleasure to welcome you to our Website which outlines details of our funded projects, publications, current members, current projects and services in your area. The Task Force is a co-ordinating body established in May 2003 as one of the key recommendations of the National Drugs Strategy 2001-2008. It was established to research, develop and implement, using a partnership approach, a coordinated, regionally appropriate response to substance misuse.

Our overall aim is to significantly reduce the harm caused to individuals and society by the misuse of drugs through a concerted focus on Supply Reduction, Prevention, Treatment, Rehabilitation and Research. Our objectives are to develop an integrated and well managed response to drug and alcohol problems, propose a range of solutions and service interventions based on the five pillars of the National Drugs Strategy and ensure that all responses are monitored and evaluated according to best practice and value for money principles.

The WRDTF first strategic plan Shared Solutions, was launched by Minister Éamon Ó Cuív in February 2006. It represents a regional approach to drug and alcohol misuse that priorities local needs. As the name suggests our strategy recognises that no one agency can tackle all drug-related problems on its own, but by working together we can employ joint planning and forward thinking to achieve Shared Solutionsand integrated service planning that will address drug and alcohol problems early and as a result reduce the harmful impact of drug and alcohol misuse. We are committed to working in partnership with all agencies and bodies and look forward to the publication of our new regional strategic plan within the coming months.
