A Drug & Alcohol Community based Family Support Post

Invitation to Tender

for

Drug & Alcohol Community based Family Support Post for the Western Region

The Western Region Drugs Task Force (WRDTF) invites tenders from Community Based Organisations/Agencies (Project Promoter) to tender to host a Drug & Alcohol Family Support project.

Introduction:

One of the key recommendations of the National Drugs Strategy 2001-2008 was the establishment of Regional Drugs Task Forces throughout Ireland.  The Western Region Drugs Task Force was established in May 2003 and its geographical boundaries cover Co. Galway, Mayo & Roscommon. Its function is to research, develop and implement, using a partnership approach, a coordinated, regionally-appropriate response to substance misuse.

As part of its function the Western Region Drugs Task Force funds specific Substance Misuse Projects to carry out the work of the National Drugs Strategy (interim) 2009-2016 & Regional Substance Misuse Strategic plan.  Families and Family Support are named under both the prevention and treatment actions within the NDS and within the WRDTF second Strategic Plan 2011-2014 for this reason the WRDTF is committed to funding Community Family Support Initiatives within the region.

This Family Support initiative is based on the principle of interagency working and the Project Promoter is required to provide evidence of delivering services in the area of addictions and or Family Support to be eligible to apply for this project. The agency must be in a position to employ the Family Support Worker/Cllr. who will be an addictions specialist resource for Family Support initiatives throughout the western region.

The Project Promoter should base their tender on the seven guiding principles and practices for the delivery of family centered services.

Definition:

Family support is recognized as both a style of work and a set of activities that reinforce informal social networks through integrated programmes. These programmes combine statutory, voluntary, community and private services and are generally provided within the community (ref: Dolan, P., et. al).

Family support Practice aims to:

  • Integrate programmes combining statuory, voluntary, community and private services
  • Positively reinforce informal social networks
  • Target the hard to reach and the most vulnerable who are at risk
  • Intervene early across a range of levels and needs
  • Promote and protect health, well-being and the rights of all children, young people, their families and communities
  • Undertake a style of work that is based on operational and practice principles
  • Encompass a wide range of activities and types of services (Ref: Dolan, P., et. al).

Recourses:

The budget for this project is €60,000 annually. Salaries must comply with Pobal pay scale; all other associated costs must be included with the allocated budget (i.e. PAYE, PRSI, travel & substance etc.). Annual allocation is made in two staged payments of €30,000
